Shrewsbury
Love From Shropshire
Thursday 2nd September 2010
Evening Entertainment
After dark, the shops, markets and pavement cafés give way to a thriving scene of music and nightlife, open air theatre and the arts. But how could it be otherwise? After all, thanks to the meandering River Severn, central Shrewsbury is the only town in the world that is entirely Left Bank.
So take a stroll and let the Shrewsbury night embrace you.
The sounds of (live) music and (even livelier) laughter will draw you in the right direction.
One place to look out for is the Old Market Hall. It was built in 1596 and is steeped in medieval history. Following a recent major refurbishment, it now houses a film and digital media centre.
Of an evening you will find all the latest mainstream, art house, foreign, British and classic films showing at the centre. It even has its own café which serves a fine selection of sandwiches, cakes and tea or coffee.
There are regular exhibitions of glass, ceramics, paintings and jewellery at museums and galleries throughout the town. There's traditional art to charm and delight you, as well as modern art to tempt and challenge.
Of course, you may like to treat yourself to a evening meal in our historic town. There are many places to eat in and around the town centre, and helpfully we have compiled the list of the best places to eat. You can find it by clicking here.
Alternatively, you can follow a guided ghost trail and hear tales of Spooky Shrewsbury.
